What are the key performance characteristics of HPMC?

Answer: HPMC (Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose) has: Water Retention: Prolongs hydration in cementitious materials, preventing premature drying；Thickening: Enhances viscosity and workability of mortars/plasters；Adhesion: Improves bond strength in tile adhesives and renders；Solubility: Dissolves in cold/hot water, forming a colloidal solution；Thermal Stability: Maintains performance across a wide temperature range.
What is the viscosity of your HPMC/MHEC?

Answer: We have HPMC/MHEC from 400 mPas to 200,000 mPas viscosity (Measured by NDJ series rotational viscometer).
Is the higher the viscosity of HPMC used in wall putty, the better?

Answer: The most important function of HPMC is water retention, followed by thickening. In wall putty, as long as the water retention is good, lower viscosity is okay. The higher the viscosity, the better the relative water retention. However, when the viscosity exceeds 100,000, the viscosity has a negative effect on the water retention. At the same time, it can cause problems such as poor smearing and difficult workability.
What is the manufacturing process for HPMC?

Answer: HPMC production involves:
● Alkalinization: Treat cellulose (wood pulp/cotton) with alkali to form alkali cellulose.
● Etherification: React with methyl chloride and propylene oxide to introduce hydroxypropyl and methyl groups.
● Purification: Neutralize residual alkali, wash, and remove salts.
● Drying & Grinding: Dry the product and mill it into fine powder (80–200 mesh).
● Quality Control: Test viscosity, methoxyl/hydroxypropoxyl content, and moisture.

Answer: Yes, HPMC is compatible with:
● Redispersible Polymer Powders (RDP): Enhances flexibility and adhesion.
● Hydroxypropyl Starch Ethers (HPS): Boosts anti-sag properties.
● Air-entraining Agents: Adjusts density and thermal insulation.
● Retarders/Accelerators: Modifies setting times without compromising HPMC’s water retention.
What factors influence HPMC dissolution rate in water?

Answer:
● Particle Size: Finer powders dissolve faster.
● Water Temperature: Cold water slows dissolution; pre-dispersion in hot water (≤60°C) accelerates hydration.
● PH: Optimal dissolution occurs in neutral to slightly alkaline conditions.
● Mixing Speed: High-shear mixing reduces lump formation.
What is the difference between HPMC(Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose) and MHEC(Methyl Hydroxyethyl Cellulose)?

Answer: HPMC (Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose) contains both methyl and hydroxypropyl groups, offering better high-temperature stability and water retention. MHEC (Methyl Hydroxyethyl Cellulose) has methyl and hydroxyethyl groups, providing improved freeze-thaw resistance and compatibility with certain polymers.
Is there another name for HPMC?

Answer: Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose is referred to as HPMC, alias: Hypromellose; Cellulose; 2-hydroxypropylmethyl Cellulose ether; Cellulose hydroxypropyl methyl ether Hyprolose.
Which quality standards do your products comply with?

What are the performance differences between daily-chemical grade HPMC and construction grade HPMC?

Answer: Daily-chemical grade HPMC must meet safety standards for personal care products (e.g., low heavy metal content, non-irritating), focusing on transparency, dissolution speed, and film-forming properties, suitable for laundry detergent, dish soap, foaming hand sanitizer, etc.
While, construction grade HPMC emphasizes high water retention, thickening, and anti-sag performance to meet the requirements of cement-based materials.
Therefore, their production processes and purity controls differ accordingly.
What role does HEC (Hydroxyethyl Cellulose) play in coatings?

Answer: HEC acts as a thickener and stabilizer in coatings, improving leveling, anti-spattering, and storage stability while enhancing pigment dispersion. It is widely used in water-based paint, latex paint, etc.
How does RDP (Redispersible Polymer Powder) enhance tile adhesive performance?

Answer: The typical RDP dosage in tile adhesives is 3%-5% (by weight of powder materials).
When combined with HPMC:
● HPMC provides water retention and workability, while RDP enhances flexibility and crack resistance;
● Their synergy improves bond strength (especially in low-temperature environments), reduces shrinkage, and extends open time.

What type of product packaging do you use?

Answer: We usually use 25kg PP woven bag for our products. In addition, we can also use jumbo bags of 500kg if special requirements apply.
Can you provide UN-certified hazardous material packaging?

Answer: Our products are non-hazardous. However, upon request, we can customize moisture-proof or anti-static packaging compliant with UN standards to ensure safety under special transport conditions.
What delivery options are available for my purchase?

Answer: Depending on the destination, we can ship by boat, train and plane.

What is the response time for urgent technical issues?

How should HPMC be stored to ensure stability?

Answer:
● Environment: Store in a cool, dry, ventilated area away from direct sunlight.
● Moisture Control: Keep sealed in original packaging to avoid clumping (HPMC is hygroscopic).
● Temperature: Ideal storage temperature: 5–30°C. Avoid freezing or prolonged high heat (>40°C).
● Shelf Life: Typically 12–24 months if stored properly.
How should RDP (Redispersible Polymer Powder) be stored after opening?

Answer: RDP must be sealed in a dry environment. After opening, we recommend vacuum resealing to prevent moisture absorption and clumping. Use within 1 month for optimal performance.
Does HEC require re-testing after long-term storage?

Answer: If stored properly (temperature ≤30°C, humidity ≤60%), no additional testing is needed within the shelf life. For expired or improperly stored batches, test viscosity and solubility before use.
Will long-term storage in an environment with humidity above 70% affect product performance? How to remedy this?

Answer: Humidity >70% may cause HPMC to absorb moisture and agglomerate.
For unopened original packaging, the product can be restored by inverting and tapping the package.
For opened products, use within 3 months. Severely agglomerated products can be dispersed by high-speed shear mixing without affecting water retention, though we recommend prioritizing unused batches.
