HPMC & Gypsum Plaster?

         HPMC & Gypsum Plaster?

1.Gypsum Plaster

Gypsum is a widely used type of industrial materials and building materials. It can be used as cement retarder, gypsum construction products, but also used in model making, medical food additives, paper filler and paint filler. Gypsum and its products have excellent sound insulation, heat insulation and fire performance because of its micro porous structure and heating fire dehydration.

According to its use and performance, plaster can be divided into:

Ordinary building plaster: ordinary building gypsum is the most common type of gypsum on the market, which is mainly used for painting, sculpture and products of indoor buildings. It is usually white or light gray, with high strength and good plasticity.

High strength building plaster: high strength building gypsum has higher physical performance compared with ordinary gypsum. Its compressive and folding strength is better than that of ordinary gypsum, so it is widely used in building components and products with high bearing capacity.

Model plaster: Model gypsum is mainly used in model making and sculpture field. It has good plasticity and fine texture, can well retain the designer's original creativity, and easy to process and shape.

Ground hardened plaster: ground hardened gypsum is mainly used for ground hardening and repair. It has good wear resistance and durability, can effectively enhance the hardness and durability of the ground, often used in concrete pavement repair and maintenance.

2.HPMC-Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose

Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) is a non-ionic cellulose mixed ether, belongs to the high polymer. It usually presents as a white fibrous or granular powder with viscoelasticity. HPMC has many unique properties, making it widely used in many fields, including plastics, construction, detergent, and cosmetics.

In the field of building materials, hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose can also be used as an additive in gypsum plaster powder to improve the performance and enhance the functionality of plaster powder.

3.The role of HPMC in plaster

The application of HPMC in plaster mainly includes the following aspects:

Water retention: HPMC can effectively maintain the water in the gypsum, prevent the evaporation of water too fast, thus delaying the hardening speed and making the construction more convenient. In high temperature season or dry environment, high quality HPMC can better control water evaporation, improve water retention, and ensure the bond strength and compressive strength of the slurry.

Thickening effect: HPMC can increase the viscosity of gypsum, reduce the loss and waste of slurry, and improve work efficiency. After the addition of HPMC, the viscosity of the gypsum mixture will increase significantly, which facilitates the molding and molding of the gypsum.

Lubrication effect: HPMC can make gypsum more smooth during construction, reduce the difficulty of construction, and improve work efficiency.

Slow coagulation effect: HPMC can delay the setting time of gypsum, make the gypsum base pulp have enough time to harden and dry, so as to improve the compressive strength and durability of mortar.

Binding effect: HPMC can increase the bond force between gypsum and the base, make the bond between the slurry and the base more firm, and reduce the phenomenon of falling off and cracking.

Crack resistance: HPMC can improve the crack resistance of gypsum, reduce the shrinkage and cracking phenomenon caused by drying or temperature change and improve its tensile strength and compressive strength.

Increase toughness: as an enhancer, cellulose can increase the toughness and ductility of the cast, making it more durable and stable.

Enhance the decorative effect: by adding HPMC, it can make the surface of gypsum powder more smooth and delicate, and improve the decorative effect.

HPMC can infiltrate infiltrate in gypsum-based materials, have no negative impact on the stomatal rate of solidified gypsum products, and ensure the respiratory performance of gypsum products. HPMC also has  retareffect, ensuring the bonding ability of the material to the base surface with appropriate wet viscosity, greatly improving the construction performance of gypsum products, so that it is easy to spread and non-stick tools. Meanwhile, studies show that different types of HPMC have different effects on the setting time, folding strength, compressive strength, tensile bonding strength and water retention rate of light plaster.

4.The main markets of producing plaster

The countries where building gypsum is widely used globally mainly include the United States, Japan, and Iran. European countries such as France, Italy, and Germany also engage in large-scale production of gypsum board.

The company is currently involved in the production of machine sprayed gypsum in the Middle East region.
